World Wide Knit in Public Day
Saturday, June 10, 10am-1pm

The El Segundo Slipt Stitchers will be celebrating World Wide Knit in Public Day at Recreation Park in El Segundo (the home of the Joslyn Center).
Please join us as we share our knitting with the public. The aim of WWKIP Day is to introduce
to members of the public so they will see that anyone can be a knitter (or crocheter or other fiber artist--all are welcome).
If you would like to join us you can find us by continuing down the walkway that leads to the Joslyn Center--we plan to gather on the grassy area you will come to a bit farther along that walkway.
Bring your yarny project, a chair, something to drink, lunch or snacks it you think you will get hungry and have fun socializing and sharing the love of your favorite fiber art! We want to encourage people to join our group. There may not be much shade so plan accordingly.

You might be able to identify us from our ESSS banner (if we have a way to display it)
Our next meeting is on Saturday, February , 2024
at the Joslyn Center in El Segundo.

Information about Meeting Changes

The program schedule for the September & October meetings has been revised.
The November & December programs are unchanged. The updated meeting list is on the Meetings page (click here to view it)

In October, we will continue our work on our Crochet Fleece Blankets under the expert guidance of Cathy M. As noted on the updated meeting list (see above), in September, Gillian B. taught the Stretchy Cast Ons Revisited program originally scheduled for October. We learned There is more information about the Stretchy Cast Ons Revisted program in the September newsletter (which can be found here)! Tonya’s Magic Loop program originally scheduled for September will now be taught in 2026.
July Program: Birthday Celebration Potluck
It is the El Segundo Slipt Stitchers Guild's Birthday. We started the Guild in 1991! So now we are 34 years old (or young? Who knows!). Once again we are able to go back to our traditional birthday celebration with a potluck.
If you plan to be at the meeting and stay for the potluck, here are the guidelines:
Please bring a dish of your choice- main, salad or other side dish, chips, dessert, etc. No sign ups ahead of time, this is a true potluck! Bring whatever you think the group will enjoy (even if it doesn’t fit into any categories above). The board will provide drinks, and the Refreshments Chair will bring paper goods and utensils. She has a limited number of basic serving utensils so if your dish needs something to serve it please bring those items if you possibly can.

The kitchen at the Joslyn Center is available for our use but there are some limitations:
We cannot use any of the equipment to heat or cook. If you have an item in a crock pot (or similar) there are a few outlets available on a first come, first served basis. We are able to use the refrigerator IF there is space available but there is no way to be sure that it won’t be full. So be prepared to keep your dish cold if that is necessary. It's probably not a good idea to bring popsicles!

A Fun Thing to Watch

A member has shared a movie that she thought others might enjoy.
This short film called Behind the Sirdar Label (filmed in 1969), was originally made as a promotional video to promote Sirdar brand yarns (more information at the link below). The film takes the viewer through the process of spinning wool into yarn at their factory and packaging it to be sent to retailers to eventually be sold to consumers. The film, which was made in 1969, is a bit dated. For example, I doubt you would see so many women wearing dresses and nice shoes in a factory these days and the narrator wouldn't say "the team of girls" (at least I hope not!) and the hairstyles! But I did find it to be quite informative.

November 3, 2024Â -Â Weaving and Fiber Festival (WeFF), Torrance Cultural Arts Center
This was the intro for the Gallery page but since we are doing the captions differently now, I re wrote it in May, 2025
Roll over a picture to quickly see the caption. As of January, 2024, we have a new way of putting captions on the photos. Mouse over the picture to see the caption overlaid on the photo. To see it better, click on the picture. You will see it full sized, with the caption next to it (for easy reading of the captions so you can get all the details). When viewing the full size picture, you can also scroll through all the pictures one at a time from a gallery by clicking on the arrow to the right of the picture and caption. The individual galleries usually showcase each month's Show and Share or occasionally, a similar one time event.

A Note from our President, Joan W about our July meeting

It is the El Segundo Slipt Stitchers Guild's Birthday. We started the Guild in 1991! So we are 33 years young! And we get to have a potluck again this year to celebrate (for the first time in many years)!

If you are coming, please bring a dish of your choice - mains, salads, chips, desserts - you get the idea. A true Pot Luck.
Just a reminder about the rules for potlucks: We cannot use any Joslyn Center equipment to heat or cook and have to take our chances with the refrigerator [sometimes it's full!], so be prepared.
The board members will bring the drinks and the refreshments chair (Liz) will bring paper goods.

We have not been able to do this since Covid began so I, for one, am really really really excited.
